Finders Keepers, Cowboy: Antiques and a Dog (3.5 Stars)

I recently finished reading Finders Keepers, Cowboy by Rachelle Paige Campbell. This book is the beginning of a series and will come out on March 26, 2024. Unfortunately, I don’t feel that it’s the author’s best work.

That cowboy got rid of the buffalo.

Intro to the Book

Meg and Ryan have known each other since childhood. While Meg grew up in Chicago, she’d spend the summers with her grandma in Montana. Ryan, who lived with his grandparents, was next-door neighbors with Meg’s grandma. The words “next-door neighbors” are used loosely since both families owned a lot of land. Driving between the two properties took some time. Still, the two spend a lot of time together during their childhood summers. While Ryan found her a bit obnoxious, Meg appears to have been crushing on him for a while.

Now in their 30s, Ryan has transformed his family’s property into a bit of a cowboy tourist retreat. Meg lives in her grandma’s house and runs an antique shop, Finders Keepers, in town. She has her trusty dog who accompanies her pretty much everywhere.

My Thoughts

I’ve read previous books by this author and really enjoyed them. For me, this had the potential to be a really good book. It’s a story of two childhood rivals/frenemies who realize as adults that they really like the other person. I thought it would be fun watching their relationship develop. Yet, the story didn’t quite reach its potential in my opinion.

The biggest issue for me was that both of our main characters, Meg and Ryan, changed their feelings concerning the other way too abruptly. There were several places where I wasn’t sure why they were mad at each other or offended by the other person’s actions. Even in going back and rereading, I wasn’t sure why they felt that way.

The Plus Side of This Cowboy Story

On the plus side, this is a clean book. There’s no swearing, sexual content, or violence. It’s kind of “Hallmark” movie quality cheesy. If you like that, you’ll probably enjoy this book. It was a 3.5-star book for me. Because I have enjoyed other books by the author, I would consider reading other books in the series.
