Cabin Fever With My First Flame (5 Stars)

If you like Christmas books mixed with a bit of a second-chance romance, Cabin Fever With My First Flame by Madison Love might be just the right book for you. This novella will be published on Nov. 6th.

You can barely see Finn's cabin.

Intro to This Cabin Story

Bailey, who is recently divorced, decides to return to her hometown; Lake George, New York; to make a new start. Just before Christmas, she makes the trip from Florida to Lake George with her three daughters, ages 6, 10, and 14. She plans to live with her parents until she gets back on her feet. As she drives into town in the middle of a snowstorm, her van runs out of gas headed up a hill. Fortunately, she’s able to call emergency services. They promise to send someone to help her.

Along comes Finn, Bailey’s high school sweetheart, on an ATV. He rescues Bailey and her three daughters. Because of the horrible storm, he’s not able to take her to her parents’ house. Instead, Bailey and Finn end up spending several days at his cabin with six kids (her three daughters and his three boys- 8-year-old twins and a 16-year-old).

This is the snow near the cabin.

My Thoughts

This was a super cute book. It’s a second chance story between two high school sweethearts who through misinformation/lies (someone else lied) ended up breaking up roughly 18 years ago. More misunderstandings happen, but as they are forced to spend several days together stranded in Finn’s cabin, the truth slowly begins to come forth.

This book is on the border between a novella and a full-length novel. I feel like it’s hard to find a good novella. They generally feel like the author cuts back on quality to try to make the story shorter. That’s not the case here. This novella was able to tell the whole story in only about 160 pages.

This story is told in alternating chapters with one chapter from Bailey’s point of view and the next chapter from Finn’s point of view. It’s a fun way to look at the story because you get some of the scenes from both perspectives.

This is a clean book. There’s no swearing, sexual content, or violence. This story does involve 6 kids between the ages of 6 and 16, so you will get a bit of childish humor, such as finding farting funny. Overall, I’d recommend this book.
