Her Cowboy for Christmas: Secrets and New Directions (4.5 Stars)

I recently had the opportunity to be on the ARC team for Carolyn Twede Frank’s book, Her Cowboy for Christmas, which comes out tomorrow. Yes, this is another Christmas novella. It’s a quick read, and it is getting closer to Christmas, so I just want to give you some Christmas reading options. This is my second Carolyn Tweded Frank ARC this year. I read To Be a Lady back in August.

She meets her cowboy and likes him right away.

One Thing That Impressed Me About Her Books

This might feel like a tangent, but I wanted to mention that Carolyn Twede Frank is a versatile author. Many authors stick to one (maybe two) general genres. She’s written really great World War II historical fiction novels, Regency novels, and now this modern Christmas cowboy, small-town novella. She’s probably written great books in other genres as well.

More About This Christmas Cowboy Story

This novella is a bit cheesy, very sweet, and just a cute, fun, quick read. Our main female is Cara, who ends up in a small Montana town as she’s escaping a bad romantic relationship in Seattle. She plans to work at the local cafe just long enough to get some money and figure out where she’s going next. Because she doesn’t have a lot of money and it’s cold in Montana in the winter, she decides to rent a climate-controlled storage unit and use it as her apartment until she gets enough money for something else.

Our main male is Dustin. Dustin, who is our cowboy, owns a ranch as well as the storage unit Cara is renting. He doesn’t know she’s renting it as an apartment. Dustin is truly the sweetest, most understanding guy you’ll probably meet in your whole life. You might fall in love with him a bit. I know I did.

The cowboy might have this on his ranch.

Is the Novella Appropriate?

There’s no sexual content or violence in the novella. There is mention of a meth lab they are trying to find in the community, and there is one swear word toward the end of the novel. I would recommend this book to other people. I’ll admit I’m a pretty harsh reviewer when it comes to novellas. I feel like they are often novels that aren’t fully developed. With that in mind, there were a few places where I wanted more information. I did want to know a bit more about Cara’s previous relationship, and I wanted more of an ending. Overall, though, I felt like I wasn’t being cheated out of the whole story.
