I know it’s not even Halloween yet, but I recently finished reading Moonlight Over Mistletoe by Janet Koops. This Christmas novella, which will be published on November 1, is the third in the series. All three books take place in Mistletoe, Alaska. While you can read each novella on its own, I would recommend reading the series from the beginning.
What You Should Know About These Mistletoe Books
The series starts with Magic in Mistletoe. In this story, Martin Kringle wants to build a toyshop in Mistletoe, Alaska. We learn the Kringle family secret (Hint: it has to do with how Santa visits all those houses in one night). Sadie recently moved from Florida to Alaska after inheriting a candy store. There’s a bit of magic. There might be some romance.
Next comes Snowflake Sugar. While the other two novellas take place around Christmas time, this one happens around Valentine’s Day. Since it takes place in Mistletoe, it still has the Christmas vibe, though. Our two main characters are Jack Kringle and Rosie. Jack doesn’t quite fit in with his family. He doesn’t have the same talents or interests. If you’re only reading one of the stories in the series, this is the one I’d recommend. It’s a 5-star story.
Then there’s this book, Moonlight Over Mistletoe. Christopher Kringle is Martin and Jack’s grandfather. His wife died several years ago, and now he’s a bit too focused on his job. Eleanor Frost has been a bit of a grump since her husband died several years ago (25 years ago, if I remember right). Despite Christopher’s jolly personality and Eleanor’s standoffish personality, they somehow feel drawn to each other.
Thoughts On This Novella
This novella was a bit cheesier than the other two in the series. This couple is a bit older than the romantic couples in the previous stories. I just didn’t fully feel like they made the connection that our previous couples did. It’s a quick read, and it’s a cute story, but I think it’s my least favorite in the series so far.
There’s no swearing, sexual content, or violence in this book. It takes place mostly just a little before Christmas, but it is a Christmas town, so there’s a lot of Christmas spirit in the story. This actually might be a good lead-up to Thanksgiving since the story starts a little before Thanksgiving and then go through the Christmas season.
